Would you like to make a donation to the work of the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM)?
LSTM is a registered charity (no. 222655) and undertakes many research and development projects in tropical and infectious diseases which require the support of public and private donors, because they are under-funded through the usual international funding streams. Some of our current funding raising projects include:
Far East Prisoners of War (FEPOW) research
Dr Geoff Gill is investigating the medical conditions suffered by former FEPOW. His research has recently expanded to include the study of children of far-east prisoners of war (COFEPOW). This research requires further donations to continue.
Lymphatic Filariasis (Elephantiasis) Support Centre
Lymphatic Filariasis (LF), more commonly known as elephantiasis, is one of the world's most disabling and disfiguring diseases with a billion at risk and 120 million people infected worldwide. LF is a devastating parasitic infection and is usually contracted in childhood, often before the age of five. Spread by mosquitoes, the thread-like parasitic worms damage the human lymphatic system.
The Global Programme to Eliminate Lymphatic Filariasis was launched in 2000 with a target of eliminating LF by 2020. The Centre is a partner in the Global Alliance to Eliminate Lymphatic Filariasis (GAELF) which supports the Global Programme by working with LF endemic countries. International support to eliminate LF is steadily growing. However, funding is still urgently required to ensure that the 2020 target is met.
Scholarships and Student Hardship Funds
Donations are required to support the scholarships and hardship funding that LSTM is able to offer to the most highly qualified and deserving students. Donations of any amount can contribute to training the doctors, scientists and health professionals who are fighting to control diseases of poverty and to develop more effective systems for health care.
Other Projects
As well as the above projects, LSTM requires regular funding for general activities which often arise without warning and require immediate action. You can read more details on our fund raising projects at:
